Harm Reduction

A Spectrum of Strategies

Harm reduction is a set of practical strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with substance use. Harm reduction is also a movement for social justice built on a belief in, and respect for, the rights of people who use substances.

Harm reduction incorporates a spectrum of strategies from safer use, to managed use, to abstinence, and to meet substance users "where they're at," addressing conditions of use along with the use itself. Because harm reduction demands the interventions and policies designed to serve substance users reflects specific individual and community needs, there is no universal definition of or formula for implementing harm reduction.

  • Our Safe Syringe Program plays a key role in preventing overdose deaths by training people who will most likely witness an overdose on how to rapidly recognize one and respond.

  • To have healthy communities, all people must have equal access to quality healthcare regardless of background or life circumstances. We aim to be a safe place for all individuals to feel comfortable and supported as they set and reach their health goals.
